Under the starlit sky with a 60-metre ramp that ran down the lawns, with the gentle breeze wafting around – could there have been a more spectacular venue for a Grand Finale for any designer?

It was a fabulous glamorous end to the first edition of Gionee India Beach Fashion Week 2015, when Falguni and Shane Peacock, award winning designers and internationally renowned for their creations, unveiled their “Runaway Bride” collection at the Grand Finale on the picturesque lawns of La Brise, the sprawling property, that kissed the silver sands of Goa.

To the beats of the swinging DJs, Nina and Malika of Elektrovertz the pace was set for a tightly edited show of bridal wear that was ideal for the bride in a great hurry to reach the altar. As the audience lounged on comfy sofas, the relaxed unconventional atmosphere was perfect for the high impact show.

When it comes to bridal wear no one can beat the glitz and scintillating collections from Falguni and Shane whose “Peacock Bride” label is coveted by every girl who wants to walk down the aisle.

But this bridal wear is not for the faint of heart as was revealed by the dramatic collection. The Peacock Bride is a woman who is sexy, stylish, very daring, yet elegant and traditional.

Keeping the New Age Indian woman’s wedding trousseau requirements in mind, the designing pair created sensuous, sleek gowns, ornate cropped tops with swirling printed skirts, gossamer fine lehengas, luxuriously embroidered jackets and stunning gowns.

The colour choice matched the theme of the show as pastel pink, eye-catching grey, striking blue, red, yellow, gentle aqua green, and pristine white added to the glam factor of the creations.

Known for their striking prints’ stories, the creative pair ensured that they were the highlight of the collection. Tonal embroidery was the centre of attraction but in an innovative mix of floral and geometric patterns.

Opening the show with a baby pink net lehenga and printed cropped top, the assortment of fishtail low back gowns, hip high slit shimmering long tubes, luxurious will-power or corset style lehenga-cum-gowns with shoulder trail and hip hugging long flared embroidered skirts were visions of beauty.

The print story was in dual shades of white/blue, white/red and white/yellow for swirling panelled skirts, often teamed with long sleeved shirts; tiny velvet/net tank tops, boleros or just plain Tees with either racer back or skivvy silhouettes.

Long slinky tulle embroidered column gowns were in black, pale blue or white and the elaborately embroidered transparent net skirts were the sexy choice with body suits.

To complete the look the designing duo added jaunty printed baseball caps for a sporty angle to the wardrobe of the bride in a hurry. The gorgeous jewellery that decked the models and perfectly complemented the fabulous collection was by Minerali.

To end the show were the “Real Showstoppers”  – the very creative and dynamic pair, Falguni and Shane Peacock  – who took the ramp as the rousing applause from the very appreciative audience, filled the air.

The “Runaway Bride” collection by Falguni and Shane Peacock was the perfect couture resort wear end to a successful first edition of the Gionee India Beach Fashion Week 2015.

The confluence of the subtle Chanderi from Madhya Pradesh and the intrepid Paithani from Maharashtra.
The tale and journey of Designer Vaishali Shadangule from being a small town girl to showcasing at the fascinating Lakme Fashion Week has been a long, but most importantly a truly inspiring story

Vaishali strongly believes, Life in India is full of multiplicities! Primitive and modern, avant-garde and traditional; all co- exist in the same time. Here in a day’s span an individual could traverse across centuries! And these multiplicities of the external world are reflected in the internal world of an individual. Today an individual’s personality is a complex matrix of various mutually conflicting aspects. The juxtaposition of very different, often conflicting dimensions of life, are the inspiration of her present collection.

Vaishali always works on her instincts and her own life experiences. Her present collection is an attempt to find an aesthetic form of the play of the multiplicities of life – external and internal, social and personal, displayed and concealed, transient and indestructible. And she interprets this as “DANCE OF DUALITIES” in the form of juxtapositions of CHANDERI and PAITHANI.

Here the soft transparency of Chanderi from Madhya Pradesh is juxtaposed with the colourful boldness of Maharashtrian Paithani. While the Chanderi reveals the concealed inner core, Paithani presents the exterior aspects of life. Moreover silhouettes of the garments are inspired from the Indian traditional drapes like- Saree, Dhoti and kashthaa (nauvari) ,where each garment showcases a different drape in a unique way in just a single piece.

Vaishali states: “Being selected for the second consecutive season is like a dream come true. This time around my collection will depict a confluence between two Indian crafts Paithani and Chanderi with my unique contemporary touch, but I have made sure the fabric’s essence and original weave stay intact.”

Vaishali envisions to  expand the unexplored and limited market of ‘Paithani’ .Her garments see a lot of the  running stitch ,connecting Chanderi with Paithani and the tradional Maharashtrian nose ring-nath and phundey ‘will be intricately embellished on each garment to add that singular Indian touch which aptly represent her designs.

The USP of the garments is the perfect blend of a traditional and contemporary look. It is a combination of unique silhouettes in pure fabrics with long tunics, contemporary sarees, and drapes beautifully embroidered with Asavali, Narli, parrot, peacock, lotus motifs. The color Red plays a central part in all garments with blue and off-white rounding the palate for this season. The look will be completed with Chanderi bags with amazing motifs.

Paithani is known for its bold, colorful, and traditional motifs on glossy silk fabric. It is used exclusively as a Saree in the MAHARASHTRA region. Because of its steep cost and labour intensive nature it has very limited consumption.  Traditional expert Paithani craftsmen are shifting to other professions for survival.

Vaishali Shadangule-Profile
The motto ‘If you can dream it, you can achieve it’ truly epitomizes the journey of eminent designer Vaishali Shadangule and her brand Vaishali*S.
Hailing from small town Vidisha in Madhya Pradesh, Vaishali’s journey into fashion has been inspiring. A Science graduate, she moved to Mumbai to pursue her dreams of becoming a designer. Her commitment to her one-of-a-kind vision of creating contemporary designs from Indigenous hand woven textiles has borne fruit through her stores in Mumbai.

Vaishali states, I knew I had the design sensibilities and aesthetics but honing the skills, acquiring the right fashion education and launching my own label has truly been a tough path.”

Vaishali’s collection includes contemporary and traditional Indian wear, Indo-western and western wear. The label stands for a modern attitude, comfort and innovative style that blend the modern with the vastness of Indian textiles. Besides designing for her label, she also has licensed her label and designs to retail houses.

Vaishali was one of the few designers who with her penchant for contemporary design made the cut to showcase her design at the Lakme Fashion week Summer Resort 2011 in the Emerging Designers Category. She received a big thumbs-up from all big names in the fashion fraternity. Her Summer Resort Collection called the ‘Virus Free’ represented childhood memories. After rave reviews Vaishali garnered for ‘Virus Free’, she is going to be showcasing at the Lakme Fashion Week Winter Festive 2011 with ‘DANCE OF DUALITIES’ in the form of juxtapositions of CHANDERI and PAITHNI.

Vaishali currently runs a store successfully at Juhu Tara Road under her own label and is in the process to open up a store in Delhi, The Gallery Mall, M.G. Road, Gurgaon.

Mumbai, June 2010: Terence Lewis and Dance Company is extremely proud to present the 4th graduation performance of the professional dance course which is a partly funded scholarship in dance offered by the Terence Lewis Dance Foundation Scholarship Trust – TLDFST.

This graduation performance is a Contemporary- modern dance performance presented by the students who have trained in the contemporary & modern dance forms for the last 3 years. The students have been working on their graduation performance since almost six months now. An evening of creativity at its best – a mélange of movement, dance dramaturgy, making you laugh, question, wonder, cry, an emotional catharsis, juxtaposed with everyday banality.

The Mentors are responsible for choreographic inputs, the structuring of the pieces, creative Ideation and Technique execution of the themes, training the dancers. They also had Mr. Nakula Somana coming in to guide and coach the students especially for this production.

An excited Terence Lewis states, “This performance is different compared to Catch 22 of last year in respect to, the approach and expression of movement, the thought processes and the varied thematic concepts. Then over all treatment and tonality makes SMOKESCREEN distinct from the previous graduation performances.”

This batch of the TLDFST year – 2008-2011 has many a different stories to tell. This is the first batch with married girls who have been a part of the 3-year training process. Gargi & Sonia, seeing them from their single days to attending their weddings and adjusting to a brand new phase along with the training and the demanding grueling long hours. From the supportive husbands and in-laws who have made sure the girls follow their dreams and turn them into reality, setting an extraordinary benchmark for the society today.

Aditya, a boy with a severely injured back, worked against all possible odds, graduating today fulfilling his life’s dream. Having already finished his studies and being a little older than his batch mates, he had an additional obstacle to contend with – a severe back injury, But with an iron will, long hours of physiotherapy and the constant support of his teachers, he has achieved the impossible. Watch out for Aditya as he owns the stage in one of the most physically demanding pieces of the performance. An exceptional example of determination that nothing is unattainable if you truly work towards achieving your dream no matter the odds you face.

The TLDFST also proudly presents to you Deepak and Shivraj, both from the St. Catherine’s Home and a resident school for street children in Bandra. These brothers have adjusted to a whole new lifestyle and thought processes. Coming from extremely difficult backgrounds, just seeing this scholarship to its fruition has been a challenge. The strength of the next batch of the TLDFST scholarship is of 23 students and the auditions for this year are in progress. Students pour in from all over India and Abroad out of which only 25 students will be selected after rigorous rounds of dance auditions and interviews.

A contemporary-modern dance performance, the 4th graduating Batch of 2008-2011 of the TLDFST,  presents to you a night of great dancing and movement, a performance that brings to you 19 young lives that come together in the banality of everyday life. One colour, one face hiding feelings, fears, illusions, equations and madness. The smoke detectors are on… Live in your skin, shed your Poker face… Can you look beyond the SMOKESCREEN…???

Yes, they’ve been there, even after the vast upgrade in technology. Even before buses, railways and taxis, they always come to our rescue. My new collection is all about these Rickshawallas! A collection dedicated to the common man and especially new aged flamboyant youngsters. It is full of utility, just like my previous collection.

Sabah Khan realized their importance idling on one of her blue days. Taking forward from her previous collection ‘No Class’ which was inspired from lifestyles of people dwelling in slums of Dharavi, this new collection draws from similar strata. Traveling various distances relating to work and not able to get a ride caused confusion in her mind. Over that, shortage of money lead to a torturous visit to the ATM with a long line… all troubles showed up on the same day! But there was one person supporting her all along her nightmare. It was the hardworking Auto-rickshawalla and his Auto. Creative minds surely have a trait to make the best out of their worst days also. And just as usual, Sabah Khan is now ready showcases her new collection ‘TUK TUK’ after fearlessly attempting the unusual with her first collection, ‘NO CLASS’.

The earthy colors of uniforms, the bright colored wallpapers on the inside of the Rickshaw, the prominent curve of the vehicle and the simplicity of the Rikshawalla have been incorporated very finely in Sabah’s new collection. She has combined the cuts and fabrics worn by our ricksawala’s with new designs and trends.

Fabrics used throughout the collection are linens, synthetic and pure, stretch linen leggings, digital prints of Tuk-Tuk on linens. It is a key piece collection even though they are 16 ensembles to choose from. You will have a wider range as each piece is individual. For instance, bikini, hot pants, dhoti dungarees, waterfront waistcoats, t-backs and much more to chose from. It is apt for the summer, as it will give the wearer that uncommon edge and funk! These pieces can be teamed with existing pieces in your wardrobe as well.

Being a design student from INIFD, Andheri W and a graduate in psychology, Sabah Khan has always used her knowledge to go to the depth of each character she’s working on. She has made genuine efforts to bring out its true and flamboyant colors in her work.

Sabah emphasizes, INIFD has supported me from my GENNEXT days and subsequently for my endeavors that resulted in an appreciation letter from Prince Charles’ office. They have given me the appropriate education, training and guidance that has helped me to be here today! I am proud to be a brand ambassador for INIFD.

With TUK TUK, Sabah has given life to her creations with the grace of fabric, colors and designs. This one’s ready to break all signals and cut out the slack in everyone’s minds at the Lakme Fashion week Summer/Resort 2011!!
